Fashion production agency looks to RE/SET Canada’s fashion industry
Since 1889 The Great Hall has been an important part of Toronto’s history and culture. Originally built as a home to accommodate the growing membership of the YMCA in the late 1890’s, today this historic venue has earned a reputation for hosting Toronto’s most premier events. The 4 main rooms of the Great Hall have been graced by local/international talent and esteemed guests including Justin Trudeau, astronaut Commander Chris Hadfield, METRIC, Sloan, Fiest, and more.
This past February 6 & 7, Spacefy listing The Great Hall, welcomed RE/SET. As proud sponsors of the two-day event, created by fashion production agency The Collections, in collaboration with Robin Kay, President of the Fashion Design Council of Canada (FDCC), we were able to witness in real-time RE/SET’s new & innovated way to showcase Canadian fashion designers.
RE/SET was created to promote change and growth in Canada’s fragile, yet immensely talented fashion industry. The mission of the event is to
Reset the current fashion industry’s structure and create a flexible model that allows buyers to ‘see the collection now, and buy it now’.
Reform and create a presentation structure that is engaging.
Rethink & rebuild Canada’s fashion identity.
“The event represents the evolution of (Canada’s) 150-year-old industry and the immense talent pool (our country possess),” said Robin Kay. RE/SET is more than just another fashion event, as Robin explains, “My mission is to have the federal government finally recognize (Canadian) designers within the current description of the creative cluster and, in doing so, clearly identify our industry as a pillar of commerce and culture in Canada.” The overall concept of RE/SET looked successful as various rooms of The Great Hall where filled with fashion designers, media, and industry heavyweights.
The two-day event included a showroom in the main hall of the Great Hall that featured RTW designers Namesake, Tara Rivas for TMR, S.P. Badu, Triarchy, and accessory designers Dean Davidson, Krane, Cuchara, Dolorous, Uncuffed Leather, and shoes by Zvelle. The media, buyers, and fashion enthusiast freely mingled in the showroom and were treated to various performances including a choir medley of upbeat songs. At scheduled times of the night the audience were called downstairs into the Longboat Hall auditorium of the venue to view fashion presentations from a curated group of fashion designers including recently noted Vogue Designer to watch Sid Neigum, noted ‘Forbes 30 under 30’ duo Baeufille, designer duo Markoo, womenswear designer Hilary Macmillan, avant-grade brand Pedram Karimi, contemporary streetwear brand WRKDEPT, and menswear designers Klaxon Howl, and Thomas Balint.
We are honored to be a part of RE/SET and the overall initiative set by The Collections and Robin Kay to produce a fashion event that excels and identifies Canadian fashion as a pillar of commerce and culture in Canada.
